Opera Mobile 10 hacked and ported to unlocked Windows Phone 7 devices

If you tired of using IE9 on your HTC Windows Phone, this post is for you! A developper from XDA achieved his port of Opera Mobile 10! If you have an unlocked Windows Phone  you should be able to install the modified app.

This version of Opera Mobile 10 is not an app specially created for Windows Phone 7, as Opera has not yet released a WP version of their mobile browser. The developer was able to hack Opera Mobile 10 for WM6.5 and added an extra layer to get it work on our Windows Phone 7 devices!

Opera Mobile was the default browser for many during the day of Windows Mobile devices like the HD2 or Touch Diamond. Off course we’re waiting a real alternative browser for Windows Phone but Microsoft seems to want to keep IE9 as the default option for consumers. Microsoft introduced quite a few improvements ot its default browser with the Mango update and we’ll probably see a few more once Tango is pushed out in Q2 of 2012.

Since we don’t have an unlocked WP7 device handy, we have not been able to try to Opera Mobile 10 app for ourselves. If you give it a try, leave us a comment below and let us know what you think.

Not working: automatic screen rotation
