Upcoming HTC phones compared to the Apple iPhone 4S

For a while now, the general public has been focusing on the new iPhone.  People were expecting Apple to unveil the iPhone 5 yesterday – which was supposed to set the new standard for all smartphones to live up to.  As many of you may already know, that didn’t happen.  Rather than introducing the iPhone 5, Apple simply unveiled the new iPhone 4S – a modified iPhone 4 with a dual-core processor and an 8 megapixel camera.  If you want the full scoop on the new iPhone 4S, we’re sure you’ll find plenty of news stories to read.

So how does the new iPhone 4S compare to HTC’s latest phones?  When you put the new HTC Rhyme up against the iPhone 4S, it’s obvious that Apple’s newest product is going to come out on top.  HTC’s focus with the new Rhyme was to create a device that offers a unique experience which appeals mainly to women.

The right matchup is between the iPhone 4S and the upcoming HTC Amaze 4G or the HTC Vigor.  All three phones feature 8 megapixel cameras, high resolution display and dual-core processors.  Many would assume that the iPhone 4S would win the spec battle simply because it’s the latest product from Apple to hit the market or because the competition typically plays catch-up after Apple introduced something new, but that’s not the case this time around.

The main specs on these three phones (and a few others from HTC) are pretty similar, but Apple has chosen not to bless their new iPhone 4S with 4G speeds or a larger display. The HTC Vigor will ship with support for Verizon’s 4G LTE network and will have a 4.3-inch 720p HD display while the HTC Amaze 4G will support T-Mobile’s 42 Mbps 4G network and has a 4.3-inch qHD display.  We know that better specs don’t necessarily product a better phone, but it’s nice to see that HTC is already ahead of the curve and will be pushing out even better phone before Apple gets around to the iPhone 5.

Service providers has been focusing on their ever-expanding 4G networks. The first 4G phone on each U.S. carrier was an HTC phone, with the first phone making its debut over a year ago.  We know Apple will be able to sell the iPhone 4S without even trying, but will consumers be satisfied tying themselves into another two year contract with another 3G phone that’s supposed to be cutting-edge?

What do you think? Are HTC’s upcoming phones on par with the new iPhone 4S and does 4G really make a difference in your purchasing decision when looking at a new phone?

  1. You can’t call a phone that gets 14 Mb/s a 3g phone when you’re referring to the HTC G2 and the HTC Inspire as the first 4G phones on a network. They all have the same theoretical speed. Or has the 4G bar been raised now?

  2. It’s nice to see HTC pushing things but the problem is a lot of the people I know with iPhones have them because they’re iPhones. They don’t care about 4G connectivity or high-res screens, they want “retina displays”, “face time” and most importantly something from Apple. They buy a brand first, phone second.
