HTC Desire S Android 2.3.5 update rolling out now with HTC Sense 3.0

HTC Desire owners in the UK should start seeing system update notifications at any time now. Rumors around the web are spreading fast, indicating that the latest Android 2.3.5 update is not available for the HTC Desire S which also comes with HTC Sense 3.0.  The OTA update that’s being pushed out to the HTC Desire S includes all the new features Google packed into the Android 2.3.5 update long with an updated Google Talk application which will allow users to use the apps video chat functionality.

The new HTC Sense 3.0 interface is said to feature a few tweaks, so we’re going to make the assumption that it is in fact HTC Sense 3.5 which comes standard on the HTC Rhyme and the HTC explorer.  If the update notification has not shown up on your phone yet, you can try to trigger it manually by going to Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check for Updates.

As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts about all the new features that the Android 2.3.5 update will be bringing to your HTC Desire S.  Leave us a comment below and if you happen to have a camera handy, we’d love to see a picture of two of the new UI.

  1. Received 2.3.5 update and now camera/camcorder opens up then switches off 2 seconds later. All was working fine pre-update?? Hope a patch comes out soon.

    1. I am having the exact same camera/camcorder issue after upgrading to 2.3.5. Did you figure anything out?

      1. I found that turning my geo tagging off helped?!
So random, has been fine for weeks and then started doing it yesterday. Seems to be ok for now though I’d really like to know where my gallery has gone!

        1. Turned off GPS functionality and still doesn’t work. If anyone has figured it out your help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    2. My HTC Desire S worked fine pre-update, now it restarts randomly ~2 times in a month.
Does anyone know how can I get rid of that update ?

  2. Hello,
Im trying to get the update but my update centre couldnt find it..
How can I get the update when my update centre couldn’t find it?
Maybe is there a link at the internet to get it?

  3. After update, the Gallery icon on my main menu screen was broken.
This was fixed by removing the icon from the menu, then re-adding Gallery.
That’s the only problem I’ve had. So far…

  4. Since updating O2 HTC Desire S to 2.3.5 from 2.3.3 when the update was automatically offered the Exchange push email no longer works properly. It continually retries to sync and will not come out of this infuriating loop unless the sync is cancelled and push email is switched off eg. changed to 5 minutes.
Also had problems before the update with loss of phone signal and calls going directly to voicemail when signal ok. Forums indicate that I’m not alone with these issues.

  5. can any tell me if the htc disire z 2.3.3 is getting a update of any kind just to put my mind at rest , some people say it will and say it wont ,

  6. Got this update today on my Desire S (T-Mobile-Orange). Seems great so far and no problems yet. But cannot fathom why, on three other identical phones on the same software version, a request for software update says that no updates are available and they are all up to date. Any clues would be welcome.

    1. I am also one of the people who has yet to receive the update, when contacting HTC about this they say it’s cause the updates are all being sent out in batches which are determined by your IMEI number, and i will get the update soon. They have been telling me now since mid october when the update first started being sent out that it would be soon. They are really annoying me in regards to this.

  7. I’ve updated, and I’ve had 2 problems:
    1. Not being able to shut off the phone (holding in the power button would not trigger the shut down/restart screen). This can be solved at least temporarily by going to Settings -> Security, and unticking the ‘use secure credetials’.
    2. I have my gmail synced with the Mail application. After updating, the automatic sync is not working anymore, it only updates when i explicitly tell it to refresh within the app. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it?

    1. Yes, there are lots of perople reporting that Activesync is broken in 2.3.5, including me. I have advised the rest of my company (lots of Desire S phones issued) not to update until either Google or HTC fixes it. Im not holding my breath. In the meantime Im back to manual updates…

  8. Hey there, I’m from Pakistan, I purchased desire s few
Weeks a go with android version 2.3.3 and sense 2.1
When ever I try to update it says you’re phone is updated, where as
You’ve mentioned every where that the update have been
    Rolled out every where.

  9. Update completely wrecked my Desire HD. Phone now starts in an endless error loop, and it is impossible to stop it. Thanks a lot you total idiots at HTC

  10. My Desire S has not updated, it says that there are no updates available and it’s been ages since the update became available, any ideas on what I should do? I’m fed up of getting my texts hours late.

    1. I only just got my update last week, so yours should be coming. I’ve got an Desire S too, but the active sync is broken!

  11. I activated automatic sync and it seems to be working actually……not sure though just activates it. It was in settings – accounts and syncs, then at the top it says auto-sync. so that might be it
