Google confirms HTC made Nexus One will not be updated to Android 4.0
Those of you who own the HTC made Google Nexus One will be disappointed to hear that Google will not be releasing an official Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update for the phone. Due to the Nexus One’s hardware limitations, Google has deemed the device as being too old to run the latest version of the operating system.
Google may not have plans to bring Ice Cream Sandwich to the Nexus One, but that does not mean that the phone is dead in the water. The Nexus One run just fine on Gingerbread, but if you’re willing to take matters into your own hands, Android 4.0 may be within reach.
We have already seen reports of really SDK ports of Android 4.0 running on the Nexus One, so it’s only a matter of time before the development community releases a stable version of the OS to the public. You will of course have to root your phone, but that shouldn’t be much of an issue for most of you since I think my wife is the only person on the planet that owns an un-rooted Nexus One.
What do you guys think of Google’s decision to leave the Nexus One running on Android 2.3?
