Verizon HTC Thunderbolt OTA update features detailed, new UI imminent

There are those who still have their doubts about Verizon pushing out an OTA update for the HTC Thunderbolt before the end of the month, but Verizon has just updated their Thunderbolt support page with new details about the new 2.11.605.3 build. In addition to all the usual Gingerbread features, the Thunderbolt update will also include a new Download App Manager, better app and power management, and a new desktop UI.

Static Phone, App Launcher and Contacts icons are replaced within a customizable dock. Three swappable icons and the App Launcher icon are fixed to the Dock at the bottom of all home screen panels for easy and instant access.

We’re not exactly sure what the new UI will actually look like, but we suspect it’ll be a modified version of HTC Sense which incorporates some of the widgets from Sense 3.5 and the dock elements features on the myTouch 4G Slide.  You’ll find a full list of all the new features and enhancements below.

Verizon has not announced the OTA rollout plan yet, but if you want to brush up on how to download and install the lates update on yout HTC Thunderbolt, check out Verizon’s Software Update Instructions. Thunderbolt owners have been waiting way too long for this update, but good things do come to those who wait.

We’ll keep you updated is we get any new details, but please let us know if you do receive the update.  We’d very interesting in seeing what the new UI on the HTC Thunderbolt will look like.

  1. Not even 5 minutes after reading this article I went to go check to see if there was a ota update thinking that maybe I would be disappointed with a no update screen. To my surprise I did receive a update and within 20 to 25mins my phone loaded up the new gingerbread build. Worth the wait

  2. Can u use the front facing camera now with Skype? I got the update and I don’t see much difference in the phone, one thing I noticed, it took my phone 25 minutes to find the gps. Where as b4 the update I put an address in the navigation and it gave me the directions in a minute or less.

  3. Nick,

It may just be me, but your source link is taking me an internal 404 page on your site. I like the wrap-arounds on your new layout by the way.

  4. I checked my drippler today, saw the thunderbolt finally had an update and downloaded it. Forgive me for asking but what dig you mean by the customizable dock and swappable icons? I do have the new choices in the apps, that have all apps, favorites or most visited and downloaded. My home screens do not look different.
I do want to say I love the supplier app. Thanks for keeping us updated!

  5. When is the new user interface update rolling out with the Sense 3.5 features?
I received the Gingerbread update and it fixed many of the items I had complaints about (GPS is no longer intermittent, the phone is more responsive, battery life has improved) But the Verizon Voicemail always shows a message that isn’t there and when I put the Thunderbolt in my Car Dock (and exit the Car Mode) Landscape is no longer working on any of the home pages, but does work when an app is launched.

  6. ThunderTech,

I had that problem too with the voicemail. I have to messages icons now that look exactly the same. One had shown that I had a vm, the other did not. I went into the one with the notification and I am not sure what I did, but I had to go into it three different times, but I finally got it to delete.

  7. Explain something to me…. When you hit the home, there are 7 screens to choose from just like before…. I use MultiPicture Live Wallpaper and this update messed everything up, It added two more screens but wont let me access them. Screen two became screen one and screen one became non accessible. Screen seven became screen eight and it starts to show a screen nine but nine is non accessible also….. Before the update it only showed 7, you couldn’t slide past one or seven, it stayed on that screen, there was no black non accessible junk.

  8. I just received the update…and now my power button doesn’t work. Any suggestions. I can’t even.get my screen to pop up after it times out.
