Things couldn’t seem to get any worse for those who own the HTC Desire. Earlier this Spring HTC announced that the Desire would not be updated to Gingerbread due to internal memory limitations. Due to public outcry, HTC later reversed their stance, announcing that a stripped down version of the Gingerbread update would be made available, but Telstra thought they would take things into their own hands by forging HTC to create a custom Gingerbread update for their customer which did not include HTC Sense.
It’s been over two months since we’ve had any updates on the situation, but it looks like Telstra’s HTC Desire customers will not be getting the Gingerbread update after all. An update on Telstra’s smartphone software release schedule shows that HTC is no longer working on the update.

The choice is clear. Root the HTC Desire and flash a custom Gingerbread ROM or cut your losses and buy one of HTC’s new Android phones.
On the bright side, Telstra’s updated chart shows that the HTC HS7 and HTC 7 Mozart will be updated to Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” during the spring of 2012 – one of our readers was kind enough to remind us that spring in Australia should be kicking off in about a month. The Telstra approved software update will probably roll out right after HTC’s second generation WP7 handsets hit Telstra’s network.

I think that Telstra will be releasing the Mango update for the HD7 and Mozart in Spring 2011 , not 2012. Which would be in the next three months here in Australia.
