Rumor: Intel powered phones in HTC’s future?

For as long as most of us can remember, HTC phones have been powered by Qualcomm processors.  But that may soon be a thing of the past.  New reports indicate that Intel personnel are ‘walking the floor’ with Android prototype devices from HTC which are powered by Intel chips.  This news comes from the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) and confirms Google’s claims that future Android development would be better optimized for Intel and ARM chips.

It’s certainly nice to see another chip maker enter the Android game, but we have we still don’t think there is enough credible evidence to suggest that HTC will be producing anything more than prototypes that run on Intel’s chips. HTC chose to delay their entry into the Honeycomb tablet space and go with a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm chip rather than jumping on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 bandwagon like everyone else.  Unless Intel has something truly unique to offer, we don’t expect to see HTC change its partnership qith Qualcomm any time soon.
