HTC confirms Thunderbolt update coming within 5 days

If you were among those who jumped onto Verizon’s 4G LTE network with the HTC Thunderbolt, we suggest you keep a close eye on your notification bar for the next few days.  The HTC Thunderbolt launched earlier this year with Android 2.2 and has received several system updates since then which have fixed a few connectivity and battery issues, but HTC and Verizon have yet to release an Android 2.3 update for the Thunderbolt.

We have seen nearly a half dozen leaked gingerbread ROMs for the HTC Thunderbolt, but it finally looks like the real deal may be right around the corner.  HTC confirmed via Twitter that the update is “scheduled for later this month.”

Quite a few Thunderbolt users have never really been satisfied with their phones and we can’t seem to blame them.  Our conclusion is that Verizon and HTC rushed the Thunderbolt out the door too early simply because they wanted to get the first LTE device on the market as soon as possible.  We’re hoping that the Android 2.3 OTA update for the HTC Thunderbolt makes the device much more stable and finally delivers the user experience that HTC customers are so accustomed to.
