Nielsen: HTC captures 20% of U.S. smartphone market in Q2

According to a new chart released by Neilson, HTC’s devices now account for 20% of all smartphones in circulation within the U.S. market. Nielsen started charting the U.S. smartphone market earlier this yearand since the Q1 report, HTC’s Android phones have gained two percentage points while HTC’s Windows Phone numbers have dropped by one percent. While it’s nice to see HTC’s smartphone market share continue to grow, Samsung’s 3 percent point jump (now reaching 8%) in the Android segment puts the Korean manufacturer within striking distance of Motorola (currently at 11%).  HTC is on top of both the Android and Windows Phone segments, but Apple is still the the leading smartphone manufacturer with 28% market share.

Since the Nielsen numbers only run through the end of June, they don’t take into account the release of the HTC EVO 3D or the myTouch 4G Slide and only a fraction of the sales for the HTC Sensation 4G which launched on June . We’re not sure how popular the 4G slide is going to be, but the sales numbers for the HTC EVO 3D and the HTC Sensation 4G would give HTC another big boost for Q3.

Our guess is that HTC will gain an extra tow percentage point in the overall smartphone market share by the time Nielsen releases their Q3 chart. That should be enough for HTC to outmaneuver RIM and give them a solid hold as the number two smartphone manufacturer.

  1. This is not surprising. HTC is winning right now. Their program seems to be more user friendly. There are more free options and calls don’t drop… lol I just purchase my first HTC (evo 4g) and I really like the device. We’ll see how this product continues to match the competition.
