HTC gets served with second ITC patent complaint by Apple

While HTC may be well on its way to sorting out the locked bootloader issue to make their customers happy, it looks like things are getting a bit tougher for HTC’s lawyers there days.  HTC has been slapped with another lawsuit from Apple which has files another ITC complaint, asking the courts to block U.S. imports of all HTC “personal electronic devices.”  Since the court documents are not yet available to the public, we do not know what the main topic is thin the new patent complaint. HTC has already been sued by Apple this year for infringing on 20 different patents. A ruling on that case is expected to be made on August 5th.  We doubt the courts will block HTC from selling their phones and tablets here in the U.S. market, but HTC may be forced to pay licensing fees to Apple if the judge finds that HTC is infringing on Apple’s patents.

Update: Grace Lei, general counsel of HTC commented on the new pqatent claimst this morning, saying “HTC is dismayed that Apple has resorted to competition in the courts rather than the market place.”
