Manually download the HTC EVO 4G Gingerbread update

The Gingerbread update for the HTC EVO 4G is finally available!  Sprint will start pushing out the Android 2.3.3 update to the EVO on June 6th, but you can now manually trigger the update on your own.  Simply press Menu > Settings > System Updates > HTC Software Update > Check Now > OK > Yes and you should be good to go.  Reports indicate that the official Gingerbread update for the HTC EVO 4G is just over 110 MB and will update your build number of your phone to build 4.22.651.2.  If you download the update over Wi-Fi or 4G you should be able to complete the entire update process in less than 20 minutes.

The Android 2.3.3 update for the EVO will not include any of the new HTC Sense 2.5 feature found on the HTC Inspire 4G or HTC Thunderbolt, but that’s certainly not a surprise since we didn’t see any of those feature roll out to the HTC Desire when it received its Gingerbread update a while back.

Be sure to share your thought about the new update and let us know if you run in to any issues.

  1. I pressed the cancel button on the first ota prompt I received, now I cannot manually force the update via system updates -> HTC software updates. I just get a message stating there are no updates for your phone. My phone is not rooted.

  2. The same thing happened to me, I canceled the notification and now I can’t download the update either.

  3. My phone did the same thing but I turned on my 4G atenna and did the manual check and it worked.

  4. Gingerbread downloaded fine and installed on my Evo. Not so well on the wife’s. On reboot the red triangle with the “!” pops up. On hitting volume up and on, the following error pops up: E:unknown volume for path [/devlog] assert failed: check_mid(“full”. “PC3610000”) == “t” E:Error in /cache/OTA_Supersonic_4.53.651.104.24.651.1_release2dk2r14ngn5s3bv1.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted. LSO, Sprint ordered a replacement phone. Is there a fix?

  5. Wholesale HTC phone cases carried by Mobile Mates come in high quality and extremely low prices. Match your HTC phone perfectly, outstanding stylish cases.

  6. I envy all of you living in or around Vancouver.
There would seem for being quite a number of Malaysian/Indonesian like eating places in your area.
I live in considered one of the suburbs of Sacramento,
the capital of California. There is not one Malaysian/Indonesian restaurant right here.
Tragic. Wish I had regarded Ben’s website 15 years ago when I visited Vancouver twice. Did not know then about all these very good dining establishments there. Thanks Ben to your excellent postings.
