HTC’s Android Invasion!

This may be a little strange, but if you happened to be  at Antwerp Central Station this past Friday, you may have been greeted by a sea of little green monsters. Well not quite monsters, but a huge number of HTC branded, Android figurines, enough in fact to tinge the whole place in green. HTC is known for their quirky and original advertising style, and in what looks like stills of the making of a stop motion animation, HTC Androids have invaded the rail network in Belgium. HTC are on a roll, and is likely to increase their Android portfolio, on the back of the release of the HTC Flyer, the Sensation and the Incredible S into many markets worldwide. It’s no wonder they are marching out an army.

Belgian site, Gadget Review was there to capture the action, and as you can see from the shot above, there is certainly a green tide rolling out. With projected numbers of mobile phones shipped, heading towards 1 Billion, double that of this year.

The IDC forecast puts Android smartphones from several manufacturers on top from 2011 throughout 2015, with nearly 44% of the global smartphone market in 2015, up from 39% in 2011. Android first hit the top position globally in the fourth quarter of 2010, IDC noted.

In 2015, Windows Phone is expected to be in second place with a 20% share, growing from less than 4% in 2011. Via ARN

Predictions say that Android will be the number one mobile OS, and that Windows Phone will overtake iOS. Of course HTC is in the boat with both of those supposed movers and shakers. Obviously OEM’s know on which side their bread is buttered and HTC have again confirmed this.  Action however speaks louder than words, and HTC confirms that 70%of new handsets they produce will be Android powered. “That’s called not looking a gift horse in the mouth”. HTC have though, confirmed their partnership with Microsoft, and commitment to the Windows phone platform. Unlike Nokia, as an OEM HTC have been able, chameleon like, to change camps or a better word may be assimilate, operating systems to their hardware, without being associated with one OS, as Nokia was. In the long run, even though HTC have partnered with many software, operating system providers, they have not been dominated by one. The ability to adapt, and HTC’s commitment to top of the line specifications for their devices, seems to support some of the other predictions about the company that are coming out!
