HTC’s market capitalization helps them surpass Nokia and RIM

In the Global Mobile market, Nokia and RIM (Blackberry) have dominated the manufacturing/ device market for a long, long time. Though HTC still sells far fewer handsets that RIM and Nokia,  we figures that have come to light today, HTC’s market capitalization has pushed them above two of its main competitors; certainly surprising to the non HTC devotee. Five years ago, when the only HTC device on the market would have been a Dell branded Axim PDA, and not been aware who had manufactured it. Then paired it via Bluetooth, with your Nokia phone, for internet access, before Data plans were common, and it cost you a fortune.

Fast forward to today, HTC is practically a household name, known for it’s stylish powerful devices, and it’s innovative Sense graphical user interface. Also the fact that HTC ship so many different devices, with a variety of OS choices, Brew, Android Windows, Mobile and now Windows Phone 7, HTC have also maximised their market penetration.

HTC’s market value is now more than 30 times what it was five or so years ago, driven there by a thriving mobile device business

There’s a few things to consider here. Outside the US, the Finnish juggernaut has traditionally rolled over the competition, but Nokia have never really gained significant uptake with it’s Symbian based devices in the US market. While on the other hand, RIM has dominated the US market for years, mainly because of it’s business friendly approach. For HTC to unseat the long tern rulers of the mobile market, in one foul swoop, bodes well for the company, and consumers.

according to a recent Goldman Sachs report, the company is poised for still further growth thanks to what analyst Robert Chen describes as “a very unique business model and ecosystem strategy.” He expects HTC to ship 200 million smartphones and 30 million tablets globally each year ,over the next three to five years

With HTC about to deliver a cutting edge tablet device, and the Evo 3D handset, on April 12, it’s hard to see their new found dominance abating any time soon.
