State of the Windows Phone 7 “NoDo” Update

As I posted yesterday, the Windows Phone update is rolling out, and while it was not a blanket deployment of the pre update and the “NoDo” update, it proceeds in batches. Vanilla HTC phones will likely receive the updates first, while carrier branded phones will have to wait for the Telco’s to test the ROM’s and then pass them on. Microsoft in an effort to maintain the transparent nature of handling Windows Phone to date, and probably in response to the grumbling of many users champing at the bit for the update process to start proper, published an overview resource of who’s got what, and who’s waiting for the update.

In a fresh post on the Windows Team Blog, Eric Hautala, details more of the update process and how it will proceed from here. The most important thing, is the detailed information about how the update is being rolled out in a couple of detailed tables. One for international users and one for the US [pictured above]. No carrier specific information there, except for the not applicable on the HTC Arrive that shipped with the update.

The international table is really where we see the dominance and control the carriers have,

I have to admit the table has changed over the course of today, and there is a lot more delivering update notifications than this morning when I first looked at this. As the pages are actively updating you might want to keep checking back, but you should receive a notification on your phone when your carrier let’s it through. I will note here that my local carrier @Telstra is doing it’s usual, slow, overcautious testing process, yet @Optus is already delivering. What’s up with that?
