New report shows that 1 in 5 smartpones sold in the U.S. is made by HTC

A new report from Nielsen hit the press last week which give us a clear look at the overall smartphone market segment in the United States.  Since we’re huge HTC fans, we were hoping for some good numbers, but we were astonished to learn that nearly 1 in every five smartphones sold in the U.S. is manufactured by HTC.

HTC controls 41.3 percent of the Android segment and 70 percent of WM/WP7 segment, giving them roughly 19 percent of the entire smartphone market.  It’s clear that Apple and RIM are still a bit out of reach, but HTC’s 2011 growth plan should allow them to gain significant ground this year.

Hopefully Nielsen will be updating their report every quarter so that we can keep track of HTC’s progress over time. We’re pretty sure that the HTC Thunderbolt, HTC EVO 3D, and HTC Pyramid will help them gain a new extra percentage points and steal some market share from Apple and other Android manufacturers.
