HTC Pyramid, HTC Prime, and HTC Ignite show their faces ahead of CTIA

With CTIA creeping up on us, it was inevitable that we would come across leaked images and details of a few new HTC devices.  Today’s leak comes to us straights from China as xda.cn has unearthed renderings of the HTC Pyramid, HTC Prime, and the HTC Ignite.  Anyone hoping for three new Android handsets will be disappointed since the HTC Prime and HTC Ignite are expected to run on Windows Phone 7.

The HTC Ignite will feature a second generation 800 MHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm with a 3.7-inch 480 x 800 capacitive display, 512 MB of RAM, along with a 5 megapixel camera.  The HTC Prime looks to be nearly identical to the HTC Ignite with the exception of the added slide-out QWERTY keyboard.  The HTC Prime will feature a 3.7-inch 480 x 800 display, 512 MB of RM, 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and the aforementioned slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Two new Windows Phone 7 devices from HTC is certainly some great news, but the HTC Prime and Ignite simply don’t have the same mystique as the HTC Pyramid.  The details indicate that the HTC Pyramid will feature a 4.3-inch 960 x 540 resolution Super LDC display, a 1.2 GHz processor (most likely a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon), 768 MB of RAM, a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video calling, and a rear-facing 8 megapixel shooter with auto-focus and LED flash.  The only odd thing on the list is Android 3.0 rather than Android 2.x.  Google has made it clear tha Android 3.0 was created specifically for tablets, not handset.  The image depicts the standard Home, Menu, Back, and Search buttons below the HTC Pyramid’s screen and a sleek aluminum uni-body design which wraps around the back side of the handset.

There certainly is no guarantee that the HTC Pyramid, HTC Ignite, and HTC Prime will be unveiled at CTIA next week, but we certainly have high hopes that they will.

  1. The one thing I would observe here is that these are design renders, and the Ignite with an 800 Mhz processor, does not meet microsofts device specs for WP7.

  2. As Peter points out, the 800 MHz processor is slower than the 1GHz standard Microsoft seems to have imposed on WP7 devices. but does anyone know where that ever came from. Microsoft has never disclosed this information and if this is a second generation Snapdragon at 800 MHz, it’s the same as what the G2 has compared to the original 1GHz processor of the Nexus One. The G2’s processor is 40-50% more capable than the 1 GHz processor in the N1. I don’t think Microsoft should have a MHz or GHz standard, but a performance standard across the board. If the processor can meet certain benchmarks, it should be able to be used.

  3. Hey Sam, the three chassis specifications for OEM’s are detailed here

    http://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/windows-phone-7-whats-behind-chassis-doors-1-2-and-3/5356

Microsoft in an attempt to control it’s WP7 experience, and future proof the devices, imposed a minimum standard for devices. When I got my Mozart, a rep from MS Australia detailed the thinking behind the chassis standards, but the main point wasto ensure a base standard to provide a similar experience across different OEM devices. Don’t forget Samsung, LG and Dell, and in 2012 Nokia will join the fray.

  4. Hmmm…. I think that the processor clock speed should not be taken into consideration. Yes, they want a good processor, but Qualcomm and IT have a handful of processors that run at slower clock speeds which outperform a lot of 1GHz processor.

Clock speed sholud not be a factor, they should simply have minimum benchmark standards.
