Honeycomb port gets loaded up on the G1, the original Android phone

Like many of you, I stored away my T-Mobile G1 a while ago when I opted for a more powerful device from HTC.  But it looks like it’s time to take the original Android phone out of the drawer for another round of hacking.  ZFr3eak and yohshua from XDA-Developers have managed to port Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) to the T-Mobile G1 and HTC Magic.  They still don’t have an alpha build to share with the public, but they have created a video showing off some of the features that are working on the G1.   Honeycomb of the G1 is still missing SMS, 3G, WiFi, and Bluetooth support, but the development team has managed to enable the Honeycomb keyboard, Data / apps, multi-touch, LED, and keyboard lights.

For a quick look at what can be done with Honeycomb on the G1, we suggest you watch the video below.  Honeycomb is technically intended to be used on tablet devices with much larger screens, but it always brings a smile to my face whenever the G1 does something that most other Android phones (or tablets) have not been able to do yet.
