A Closer looks at the HTC EVO 3D

Sprint did a decent job at showing off the new HTC EVO 3D at their press event today, but it’s always hard to highlight the little features when most people are interested in the key highlights like the 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and the 4.3-inch qHD display.

Fortunately for us, more details about the EO 3D were revealed during the hands-on time at the event.  Most notable among the EVO 3D’s new features is the new HTC Sense which has been completely redesigned to take advantage of the handset’s dual-core processor and qHD display.  HTC Sense on the EVO 3D has more in common with the version that’s loaded on the HTC Flyer (HTC EVO View 4G) than it does with HTC Sense 2.0.

The lock screen now allows users to unlock the device and launch applications in one single step.  The homescreen on the EVO 3D has been updated with 3D effect when you swipe between screen and also allows for continuous scrolling, creating an endless loop of home screens.  Other enhancements include a clear launcher bar at the bottom of the screen, redesigned widgets, and new weather animation (which look similar to those of HTC’s WP7 devices).

All the media junkies out there will certainly enjoy the inclusion of HTC Match on the EVO 3D.  HTC Watch gives you access to a huge library of movies and TV show which you can purchase, rent, and even share with other devices.

While the HTC EVO 3D has an amazing list of new features, it’s quite sad that HTC has chosen to decommission the EVO’s kickstand.  The original EVO was a great phone, but the kickstand was one of the features that really made it stand out in the crowd.  HTC and Sprint are probably hoping to capitalize on this feature omission by offering a desktop/multimedia dock or other accessories to prop the EVO 3D up.

We are certainly happy with what HTC and Sprint unveiled today.  The HTC EVO 3D is definitely the must-have Android for the first half of 2011 (if they can get it to market before the end of June).  Let us know what you think.  How many of you will be upgrading to the HTC EVO 3D? Any gripes or complaints?
